PLEIN AIR 10: Deep River Blues
Waves lapping up on the banks of the bay, surrounded by scuttling crabs and soaring gulls, this old Doc Rivers tune comes alive in the sea breeze. Adapted from the Delmore brothers' 1933 "I've Got the Deep River Blues," Doc's "Deep River Blues" first appeared on his 1964 debut album. Throughout the album, Doc brings his virtuosic fingerstyle playing to traditional Americana and folk, to which I am indebted for much of my personal style. Keep your eyes on the distant water and you may see a fish or two hopping out of the water.
