Plein Air 02: The Bug Collector
For the second episode of Plein Air, I set up in a friend’s garden to play “The Bug Collector” by Haley Heynderickx.
Haley Heynderickx is a living legend; a master of poetic and musical phrase. In "The Bug Collector: she weaves such an ethereal yet familiar tapestry of musical sounds, which serve as the backdrop for a tale of love, anxiety, and assurance. She writes as someone who bears the weight of putting a loved one's anxieties at ease, through the image of various bugs who have found their way into their house. It's such an accessible song; we all relate to the horror of finding an unwanted insect visitor in our home. Yet it reaches past into questions of what it means to love in the midst of emotional turmoil, shared or otherwise.
