When I was fourteen years old I almost gave up…
After five years of playing piano I began to lose passion for music. I was tired of the endless practice and learning pieces that really didn’t appeal to me at all.
But then Mrs. Faust entered the picture.
Edith Faust was the high-school piano teacher who helped rekindle my love of music. Instead of forcing etudes or standard repertoire on me, she was curious about what kind of music I loved, and let me choose which pieces to learn. From there, she helped me grow technically using concepts found in the pieces that I enjoyed playing. This rescued me from the brink and within a few years I was studying advanced repertoire at my local music conservatory. I went on to study music composition, piano, and organ at university and am now building a career in music – none of which would have happened if not for Mrs. Faust’s empathy, understanding, and wisdom.
Now, as a music teacher myself, I endeavor to bridge the gap between musical excellence, and fun, rewarding musical practice. My lessons are catered to each student’s needs, with the goal of achieving their own musical dreams, goals, and aspirations. This doesn’t mean my students never practice drills and rudiments, but it will never be at the expense of wonder and imagination in music.

“Michael is hands down the best tutor I have ever worked with! He is patient, kind and cares about your success and growth. I worked with Michael for a few years going through Music Theory 1, 2 and 3. He was careful to explain each concept thoroughly, breaking it down in a way that was tangible while providing tips and tools along the way. Whether you are looking to learn or progress on an instrument you’re passionate about or wanting to pass your Theory class, Michael will have your back and support you each step of the way!”
— Izzy | Music Theory
“Michael has been an amazing guitar teacher for our 15 year old son, Owen. He strikes the perfect balance of being encouraging, fun, and incredibly knowledgeable. Michael’s musical gifting quickly became so obvious, that we lovingly refer to him as Obi-Wan, the Jedi of instruments. Week after week, Michael has presented the complexities of guitar in a way that is manageable for Owen, and yet gives him plenty to practice throughout the week. Owen genuinely looks forward to every lesson and has made incredible progress—not just in skill, but in confidence and creativity. It has been the best money we’ve spent on his education this last year.
Highly highly recommend!”
